At the moment it's horrible, horrible, horrible. There are now 2 types of IDs. The "internal" one and the IDP provided user id, that is found in the sub claim. At some point we need to think about how to better design a IDP integration.
This could be part of a bigger user layer refactoring, where we introduce orgs and projects.
