Fixes #9625.

Problem

The index Create Script (and the index section of the table Create Script, which shares the same code path) rebuilt the WITH (...) clause from pgAdmin's fixed list of known storage parameters and rendered opclasses without their options. Indexes created outside pgAdmin therefore lost information:

  • Opclass options, e.g. content gist_trgm_ops(siglen=32) became content gist_trgm_ops.
  • Any storage parameters pgAdmin doesn't know about, e.g. options of extension index access methods (WITH (text_config='german') in the issue) or built-in ones missing from the list (e.g. vacuum_cleanup_index_scale_factor).

The resulting script cannot recreate the index as it actually is.

Fix

  • properties.sql (default and 15_plus): also select the raw cls.reloptions array.
  • column_details.sql: also select the index column's attoptions, where PostgreSQL stores opclass options.
  • indexes/utils.py: build the reverse engineered WITH clause from the raw reloptions so every stored parameter is preserved, and append attoptions to the opclass name when generating SQL.

The properties dialog is unchanged: it still uses the plain opclass name and the known per-access-method parameters; the opclass options suffix is only applied when generating SQL.

Side effect worth noting

Boolean reloptions in reverse engineered SQL now render exactly as stored in the catalog (e.g. deduplicate_items=false) instead of the Python repr (deduplicate_items=False). The existing test expectations were updated accordingly.

Tests

  • New regression test test_indexes_sql_options.py: creates a GIST index with gist_trgm_ops(siglen=32) and a btree index with WITH (fillfactor=70, vacuum_cleanup_index_scale_factor=0.5) via SQL, then asserts the generated SQL preserves the opclass options and the complete WITH clause. Verified failing without the fix and passing with it, against PostgreSQL 17.11.
  • Full indexes test package: 63/63 pass.
  • Broader schemas.tables suite: everything passes except 5 failures that are identical on unpatched master in my environment (unrelated pre-existing issues).
  • pycodestyle clean; no JavaScript changes.

AI assistance was used while preparing this change; the result was reviewed and verified by running the test suites above.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Reverse-engineered index SQL now preserves storage parameters, including options beyond the commonly recognized set.
    • Index column definitions now retain operator class options when generating SQL in create mode.
    • Boolean values in index examples use consistent lowercase SQL syntax.

…ered index SQL. pgadmin-org#9625

The index Create Script (and the index section of the table Create
Script) rebuilt the WITH clause from pgAdmin's fixed list of known
storage parameters and rendered opclasses without their options, so
indexes created outside pgAdmin lost e.g. gist_trgm_ops(siglen=32) and
any reloptions pgAdmin doesn't know about (extension index access
method options, vacuum_cleanup_index_scale_factor, ...).

Read cls.reloptions verbatim for the reverse engineered WITH clause and
append per-column attoptions to the opclass name when generating SQL.
The properties dialog is unaffected: it still uses the plain opclass
name and the known per-access-method parameters.

Walkthrough

Index SQL generation now includes catalog opclass options and storage parameters. An integration test checks generated SQL for opclass options and storage parameters. Index test statements use lowercase SQL boolean literals.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #9625 requires index Create Script output and table Create Script index output to preserve opclass options and storage parameters. get_reverse_engineered_sql now reads every raw reloptions entry. get_column_details appends attoptions to the opclass only for generated SQL and falls back to opclassname for default opclasses. The regression test covers gist_trgm_ops(siglen=32), default-opclass options, fillfactor=70, and vacuum_cleanup_index_scale_factor=0.5. The shared reverse-engineering path addresses both script entry points.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The production changes are limited to index catalog queries and reverse-engineered index SQL generation. The new integration test directly covers issue #9625. The fixture updates change Python-style False to catalog-style SQL false, which follows the new raw reloptions output. No unrelated production behavior is shown in the reviewed changes.

Add coverage for the table Create Script.

The new test calls only /browser/index/sql/.../<index_id>. The table Create Script uses TableView.sql() and a separate BaseTableView.get_reverse_engineered_sql() path. That path assembles index SQL through _get_resql_for_index().

The existing table SQL test checks only the response status. A table-only regression can therefore pass all current tests while the index endpoint works. Add a table Create Script request and assert all three options in its response.

site:postgresql.org/docs tsvector_ops GiST siglen default operator class

💡 Result:

PostgreSQL’s GiST text-search operator class is **`tsvector_ops`**. You can write it explicitly, or use `DEFAULT` (or omit the operator class); the documented syntax allows `siglen` as an option. If unspecified, `siglen` defaults to **124 bytes**; the maximum is **2024 bytes**. GiST signatures are lossy, so PostgreSQL rechecks candidate rows. Preserve default opclass names when options are present.

column_details.sql discards the opclass name when o.opcdefault is true. The create-mode branch then cannot render options for default opclasses such as tsvector_ops(siglen=32). Keep the raw opclass name separate so properties mode remains unchanged.

A default opclass (opcname=None in the column details) with options,
e.g. tsvector_ops(siglen=64), would lose the options entirely because
the name was never rendered. Keep the raw opclass name available and
use it whenever options are present.

Replace the removed storage parameter in test setup.

On PostgreSQL 17, CREATE INDEX rejects vacuum_cleanup_index_scale_factor. PostgreSQL removed that option after version 13. As a result, setUp stops before the new tsvector_ops assertion runs. Use a supported parameter, and adjust the assertion that checks the WITH clause. (postgresql.org)
