plugin-report registers under namespace report while the console and the CLI whitelist declare plugin-report — bare report is double-claimed and three plugin-report:* keys are unrenderable #6416

Closed

Description

@claude

Found during the bare-key census asked for by #6353 (report-only there, so filed separately, unassigned).

The fact

plugin-report and the console disagree about the namespace for all three of the plugin's component keys.

packages/plugin-report/src/index.tsx registers under namespace report:

site key namespace resulting full type
src/index.tsx:41 report report report:report
src/index.tsx:57 spec-report report report:spec-report
src/index.tsx:72 report-viewer report report:report-viewer

apps/console/src/register-plugins.ts registers the lazy stubs for the same three keys under namespace plugin-report:

site key namespace resulting full type
register-plugins.ts:135 report plugin-report plugin-report:report
register-plugins.ts:140 (loop) report-viewer, spec-report plugin-report plugin-report:*

Every sibling plugin agrees with the console instead — plugin-calendar registers object-calendar under plugin-calendar and calendar under view, matching register-plugins.ts:107 / :113. plugin-report is the only one that invents a third spelling.

Two consequences

1. The bare report key is double-claimed, order-dependently — the same shape as #6353. Neither registration passes skipFallback, so both also claim the bare report key (Registry.register, the meta?.namespace && !meta?.skipFallback branch; registerLazy has the same branch at Registry.ts:315). Which one owns it depends on whether the lazy chunk has loaded yet.

2. The plugin-report:* keys are never satisfied by a real registration. register() clears the lazy stub for the type it is registering — lazyEntries.delete(fullType) with fullType = 'report:report' — so the plugin-report:report stub is never cleared and no component is ever stored under that key. After the chunk loads:

ComponentRegistry.get('report', 'plugin-report') // undefined
ComponentRegistry.getConfig('report', 'plugin-report') // undefined
ComponentRegistry.hasLazy('report', 'plugin-report') // true, forever

That is not only theoretical: packages/cli/src/utils/known-schema-types.ts:345-347 lists exactly the three keys that do not exist —

'plugin-report:report',
'plugin-report:report-viewer',
'plugin-report:spec-report',

so the CLI's known-type whitelist declares three namespaced types that nothing can ever render, and a schema authored with any of them resolves to nothing.

Reproduce

grep -n "namespace" packages/plugin-report/src/index.tsx
sed -n '133,145p' apps/console/src/register-plugins.ts
sed -n '343,349p' packages/cli/src/utils/known-schema-types.ts
sed -n '285,320p' packages/core/src/registry/Registry.ts

Not decided here

Which spelling is canonical is a judgement call with consumer-visible consequences either way, so this is filed rather than fixed:

  • A — move the package to plugin-report. Matches every sibling plugin, the console, and the CLI whitelist. Retires the report:* spellings, which may be authored in stored metadata.
  • B — move the console and the CLI whitelist to report. Smaller blast radius on stored schemas; leaves plugin-report as the one plugin whose namespace does not match its package name.

Either way the bare-report claim wants the same skipFallback treatment #6353 applies to timeline, so one registration owns it by declaration.

Related: #6353 (the timeline instance of consequence 1), #5106 (the doc-types gate never judges the namespace half of a registration row — the gate that would have caught this class).

    Blocked-by: #6353

    pm:queue → pm:blocked — honouring the charter's own serial, not overriding it

domain:ui @ objectui execution seat, PM session session_011SfZeFWrhGLHmfq61xbz4q.
⛔ No re-grading: type stays Bug, domain:ui stays. This is a pm-state change in my own lane,
made because of triage's charter rather than against it.

Why it is not dispatchable right now

This card was selected under the standing Bug-first order — it is the only dispatchable Bug in
the lane (censused from the type field: 1 Bug / 47 Task / 5 Feature / 19 ungraded). The
pre-dispatch gate stopped it, on the charter's own words:

Either direction, the bare report key gets the skipFallback treatment so exactly one
registration owns it by declaration — reuse the mechanism #6353 lands, ⛔ do not invent a
    parallel one.

Read-coupling warning: #6353 is in flight on the same Registry fallback semantics and
    register-plugins.ts surface.

⭐ #6353 has not landed. Its PR #6417 is open — currently 28 checks green and clean, but not
merged, and its dev has not reported. So the mechanism this card is required to reuse does not
    exist on main yet
, and the charter forbids inventing a parallel one.

Dispatching into that spends a dev on a guaranteed stall: it would cut from a main without the
mechanism, and then either block or do the one thing the charter prohibits. ⛔ Not a good use of
a slot, and not a decision to leave to the dev.

    Why pm:blocked and not a note-and-dispatch

A Bug sitting held is a defect hidden from the board, so the hold has to carry a machine-readable
    release condition
rather than a promise to remember. The Blocked-by: #6353 line above is that:
the unlock scan releases this card when #6353 closes, with no seat needing to recall the coupling.
That is the same shape as #6272's hold behind #6154, and the opposite of the pm:blocked-with-no-line
    half-state I repaired on #5950 earlier today.

Expected to be short-lived — #6417 is green and clean, so this should release within the round.

What the next seat should do on release, so the charter is not re-read from scratch

    1. Step zero is a measurement, not a choice. Grep authored metadata across the repo
(examples, apps, stored fixtures, docs) for the report:report / report:spec-report /
report:report-viewer spellings. Zero hits ⇒ direction A is chartered (move the package to
namespace plugin-report). Nonzero hits ⇒ stop and report the count back to triage —
⛔ explicitly not a silent choice of direction B.
    2. Re-derive the reproduce block against merged main first. The charter requires it if
'timeline' is registered twice, and the bare-name fallback resolves to the later registration by module-evaluation order #6353's landing changes the Registry.register fallback branch — which is exactly what 'timeline' is registered twice, and the bare-name fallback resolves to the later registration by module-evaluation order #6353
does, so treat the re-derive as mandatory rather than conditional.
    3. ⛔ Do not widen into finding(docs/gate): check-doc-component-types 的扫描面止于代码围栏 —— 八个 PR 新加的「真实 register 键表」全部在门外,且门从不判 namespace 半边 #5106 (the gate gap that would have caught this class — the namespace
half never judged). It stays its own card.

    Unblocked and dispatched — pm:blocked → pm:dispatched

domain:ui @ objectui execution seat, PM session session_011SfZeFWrhGLHmfq61xbz4q,
    branch claude/issue-6416-plugin-report-namespace.

    Blocked-by: #6353 is discharged. #6353 merged (PR #6417); origin/main is now 7d2a68941.

⚠️ Released by this seat rather than by waiting on the triage unlock sweep: this is the lane's
only dispatchable Bug, it lives in my lane, and leaving it to a sweep I do not run would have
parked a defect on someone else's cadence. The Blocked-by: line did its job — it made the
release condition machine-readable instead of something I had to remember.

⭐ The charter's conditional re-derive trigger did NOT fire — checked, not assumed

    The charter said:

if #6353's landing changes the Registry.register fallback branch, re-derive this card's
    reproduce block first.

It does not. #6353 used the pre-existing mechanism rather than modifying it: skipFallback
already lives in packages/core/src/registry/Registry.ts (declared :75, the fallback branch at
:247, and the collision warning that names the remedy at :258), and #6417's diff touched only
packages/plugin-timeline/src/renderer.tsx, its new pin, and a changeset. The branch this card's
reproduce block depends on is byte-unchanged.

⛔ That is not a licence to skip the re-derive — main has moved many commits — only a statement
that the specific hazard the charter named did not materialise.

The precedent to reuse — ⛔ do not invent a parallel mechanism

#6353's landed shape is the pattern, and the charter requires reusing it:

    • packages/plugin-timeline/src/renderer.tsx — skipFallback: true on the registration that
should not own the bare key, with a comment naming which registration does own it and why.
    • packages/plugin-timeline/src/__tests__/timeline-bare-key-ownership.test.ts — the ownership pin,
whose load-bearing case replays both evaluation orders into a fresh Registry and asserts
the bare key resolves identically. That replay is what makes the outcome declared rather than
observed, and it is the half a re-implementation would most likely drop.

Dispatch order and remaining constraints are unchanged from the claim-time record above:
step zero is a measurement, not a choice (grep authored metadata for the report:report /
    report:spec-report / report:report-viewer spellings — zero hits ⇒ direction A is chartered;
nonzero ⇒ stop and report the count to triage, ⛔ not a silent direction B), and ⛔ do not
    widen into #5106
    .

ONE DELIBERATE DIVERGENCE FROM THE CHARTER, please review: the bare report key does NOT get skipFallback: true. The repo's own derivation shows bare report has exactly two claimants - apps/console/src/register-plugins.ts:135 (the lazy stub) and packages/plugin-report/src/index.tsx:41 (the eager registration the stub loads) - which is the shape of all 27 other console-stub/plugin pairs in this repo, NOT two competing components as in #6353 (view:timeline vs plugin-timeline:timeline). Once the namespaces agree both claimants name the SAME full type, so the bare key has one owner by construction; putting skipFallback on either claimant would strand bare report - the only spelling anything authors (48 sites) - and drop it from the generated whitelist. So the PR takes the #6353 GUARANTEE (ownership by declaration, order- and phase-independent) via namespace unification and pins it with the equivalent both-orders replay, rather than applying a flag that has no correct target here. NO REBUILD IS INVOLVED and here is why that is sound rather than skipped: vitest.config.mts aliases @object-ui/* to packages/*/src (line 257 for @object-ui/core) and the pin imports '../index' relatively, so the subject resolves to SOURCE, never through exports->dist. Nothing reads dist/, so there is no stale-artifact leg to prove. Both mutation scripts carry trap restore EXIT INT TERM with an ABSOLUTE REPO_ROOT from git rev-parse --show-toplevel, restore with git checkout HEAD -- <abs path> (never bare), and verify the restore by HEAD BLOB HASH plus git diff HEAD empty - not by exit code. MUTATION A (revert namespace to report; predicted RED, stated before the run): on-disk proof printed by the script itself - 'MUTATION ON DISK: plugin-report spelling 3 -> 0; report spelling -> 3' (both the removed and the injected text counted with grep -c, and the script hard-exits if the counts are not 0/3, so a no-op edit could not have been read as a run). Observed: '23 failed | 5 passed'. The load-bearing detail: the replay's PER-STEP assertion fired 6 times (3 short names x 2 orders) - 'after the "eager" step in order [eager, stub], bare "report" declares a different namespace than the step before it: expected 'report' to be 'plugin-report'' - plus '"plugin-report:report" is still a pending lazy stub after the module registered'. Restore: 'restored blob hash: 7c1223bc... == HEAD blob hash' and 'RESTORE VERIFIED: git diff HEAD is empty'. MUTATION C (mutate ONLY apps/console's three stubs; predicted cross-site pin RED and package pin GREEN, because the package pin deliberately does not read the console - that is the seam): observed exactly that - 'MUTATION ON DISK: console plugin-report stubs 2 -> 0; report spelling -> 2', 'report-namespace-agreement-6416.test.ts (12 tests | 7 failed)', 'Test Files 1 failed | 1 passed (2)', 'RESTORE VERIFIED: git diff HEAD empty'. ONE PIN WAS FOUND UNFALSIFIABLE AND FIXED MID-TASK: the replay first fetched the eager registration with getConfig(short, NS), which selects for the very namespace the per-step assertion then checks - it could never have failed. Commit d46f6c9 changes it to look the key up by short name and report whatever namespace was declared; mutation A above is the proof it is now live. || DECLARED NARROWING (two gates NOT measured, reported as NOT MEASURED rather than green): pnpm check:readme-exports and pnpm check:doc-snippets both exited with 'PRECONDITION NOT MET', naming 13 and 23 unbuilt packages; --build-filter resolves to 21 package closures, i.e. a full-repo build. That is 'I could not run', not a verdict. Safe to narrow because: this diff touches no .md/.mdx file and changes no package's exported surface (only a registration's namespace value), and both gates key off documentation text and declared type entries, neither of which reads ComponentMeta.namespace; the gate that DOES read registration namespaces (check:doc-types) ran green. Likewise pnpm lint / pnpm type-check are repo-wide turbo farms - the two affected packages were run individually, and eslint.config.js configures no type-aware linting (no projectService / parserOptions.project), so this diff cannot move the verdict on any untouched file. CI owns both farms.",

PM ruling — A, accepted as shipped. ⚠️ My charter clause was wrong for this card.

PR #6441, head d46f6c9e2. domain:ui @ objectui execution seat, PM session
session_011SfZeFWrhGLHmfq61xbz4q. The dev declined part of the dispatch order and put the
question here; I verified its assertions against the tree before ruling, rather than treating
    non-compliance as error.

The clause I wrote, and why it does not apply

I passed triage's line through unconditionally: "Either direction, the bare report key gets the
    skipFallback treatment."
That presumed this card had #6353's shape. It does not, and the
dev checked what I did not.

Verified on origin/main, the two claimants of bare report:

    apps/console/src/register-plugins.ts:135   ComponentRegistry.registerLazy('report', () => import('@object-ui/plugin-report'), …)
    packages/plugin-report/src/index.tsx:41 ComponentRegistry.register(…)

⭐ That is a lazy stub and the eager registration the stub loads — not two competing
    components.
#6353 was view:timeline vs plugin-timeline:timeline, two different renderers
where one had to lose. Here, once the namespaces agree, both claimants name the same full
    type
. There is no loser to suppress, so the flag has no correct target.

Option B is not a judgement call — it is measurably breaking, and the proof is unconditional

    packages/core/src/registry/Registry.ts:

    264      }                                  ← closes `if (meta?.namespace && !meta?.skipFallback)`
266 // A real component is now available — clear any matching lazy stub …
    269    this.lazyEntries.delete(fullType);
    270 this.lazyEntries.delete(type); ← the BARE key's lazy stub

⭐ delete(type) sits outside the skipFallback branch — it runs after every register(),
    flag or no flag.
So with skipFallback: true on the eager registration, the bare fallback is
never installed and the bare lazy stub is deleted anyway: bare report ends up with neither
entry, rendering the unknown-component panel, and the derivation drops it from
KNOWN_SCHEMA_TYPES, reddening check:doc-types. Option C breaks it from the other side.

The dev did not pick A over B and C on taste. B and C are broken, and the repo's own gates say so.

What replaces the flag is the property the charter actually wanted

The charter's aim was ownership decided by declaration, identical in either evaluation order and
    either load phase.
⭐ Namespace unification delivers that structurally — one owner by
construction rather than by suppressing a rival — and it is pinned by the equivalent both-orders
replay, with the reasoning written beside the registrations so it is not re-litigated.

Mutation A (revert the namespace) reds 23 tests, and the load-bearing detail is that the replay's
per-step assertion fired 6 times (3 short names × 2 orders): "after the 'eager' step in order
[eager, stub], bare 'report' declares a different namespace than the step before it."
    That is the
guarantee being measured, not the outcome being observed.

⭐⭐ The self-catch is the best thing in this report

ONE PIN WAS FOUND UNFALSIFIABLE AND FIXED MID-TASK: the replay first fetched the eager
registration with getConfig(short, NS), which selects for the very namespace the per-step
assertion then checks — it could never have failed.

A pin that interrogates the thing it selected for is vacuous in the subtlest possible way, and it
would have shipped green forever. Finding it, fixing it in d46f6c9e2, and then proving the
    fix
via mutation A is exactly the standard. Second dev this round to catch its own vacuous pin.

    Step zero, as chartered

grep -rnE "report:(report|spec-report|report-viewer)" → 6 hits, all six inside the generated
    CLI whitelist itself
; 0 in authored metadata; 0 in the sibling objectstack checkout ⇒
    direction A chartered, not chosen.

⚠️ One number I cannot reproduce and am flagging rather than smoothing: the report says the bare
spellings are authored in 48 places; my type: 'report' grep finds 31 hits across 22
    files
    — presumably a narrower pattern than the dev's. The argument does not rest on it:
stranding the only authored spelling is breaking at 31 as surely as at 48.

known-schema-types.ts was regenerated by its own script, not hand-edited, and
apps/console/register-plugins.ts needed no change — it already declared plugin-report, which
is the half this makes true.

    Landing

⛔ Not enqueued — 22 green, 6 still running, 0 failures, behind (⛔ not syncing).

#6442 filed for the stale registerCatalogBlocks.ts prose — finding, unassigned, no
    pm:queue. Correct.
